an experience of music and community
Music in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada!
Come back soon for news of The Woods 2010.
NEWS: The Woods Committee is launching a new website very soon,
and with it a new Webmaster.
It has been my pleasure to contribute to The Woods in this small capacity
since November 1997. So long, and all my best, to all Woods Folk everywhere!
Maybe see you at camp again one of these days. - JackFive glorious days and nights of classes, workshops, concerts and special events at an idyllic lakefront site! Come to The Woods, an event for sharing the joy of folk music and dance, with folks of all skill levels. Try a new instrument, swap songs and tunes, dance the night away, or just hang around with musical friends, old and new.
Our staff combines top North American and international performer / teachers who share their talents and skills in an intimate and relaxed environment. Separation between staff and campers is minimized to generate a supportive atmosphere for co-operative learning. With delicious food, convivial people, and the beauty of lake country, it's the perfect summer getaway.
Accommodations
Our site is 2.5 hours north of Toronto on the campus of Lake Rosseau College. The rural setting of Lake Rosseau offers opportunities for swimming, boating, and hiking. Sleeping arrangements feature single, double or three-person rooms with shared shower and washrooms. Some reduced rate singles and doubles are available off the main campus (transportation is required). We provide tasty meals and healthy snacks with attention to special needs.Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children, pets or visitors.
Program
Our program includes two streams of four classes each, devoted to songs, singing, making music, dancing, and musical traditions. Daily workshops feature shorter subjects of typically one or two sessions each. There is also a "community time" every day, involving all staff and students in the exploration of a specific topic. Staff members and students perform evening concerts, followed by dances, song circles and jams every night.
