BALLATER HISTORIC FORESTRY PROJECT ASSOCIATION

RECREATING THE NEWFOUNDLANDER’S WW2 LOGGING CAMP

Dear Mr Pike

We are an Association set up in Ballater, Scotland with the aim of recreating the Glenmuick Camp built by the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit in 1940.

We have recently received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Forestry Commission Scotland to make a short film about the camp and the activities of the Forestry Unit. The film will be shown in the Old Royal Station in Ballater a visitor attraction that attracts 80,000 visitors each year.

My reason for contacting you is to see if you can help us with the provision of photographs or newsreel of the Forestry Unit in Newfoundland, en route to Scotland and working in Scotland (at the Glenmuick Camp, if possible).

We would also be very keen to involve any surviving members of the Unit who remember the Glenmuick Camp in the film and would be very grateful if you could put us in touch with such people.

Please reply to our Consultant Project Coordinator, Paul Higson, at paul@higson43.freeserve.co.uk

Any help you can offer would be most gratefully received.

Yours sincerely

Ian Cameron

Association Chairman
