This is a postcard from
Bert Taylor of Millertown, sent to his mother while he was in Halifax waiting
for his convoy to
sail to Britain. The card
was held and mailed several days after the ship sailed in order to maintain
secrecy regarding
convoy activity due to
the ever present danger from German U-Boats in the North Atlantic. A man
dispensed these cards
from a small table, and
a line-up of men would form to fill one out for the family back home in
Newfoundland. As the
writer filled the card
in the man behind the table put the stamp on, but the right way up for
him so the stamps were
upside down.
