Woods Scholarship / Alternate Payment Information

The Woods Scholarship program is designed to make The Woods Music and Dance Camp affordable for campers who otherwise could not attend. We do not have a large fund but within these limits our goal is to assist as many applicants as we can and to meet applicants' needs as closely as possible. This program is specifically for the summer Woods Music and Dance Camp and funds are awarded as fee reductions. Funds for this purpose come from direct donations, periodic fundraising, and the David Parry Memorial Fund.

Sources of support

There are three types of financial assistance:
  1. Loans. Some or all of the amount owing may be paid in interest-free installments by post-dated cheques beginning in July and spread over 6 months. A person who has an outstanding loan is not eligible for assistance again until that loan is paid.
  2. Work scholarships. In exchange for up to 2 hours of work daily, fees may be reduced up to $150. These jobs include serving as lifeguard, assisting in extra cleanup and setup chores at camp, providing transportation for errands (e.g. to and from the bus stop for arriving campers), or contributing to the program (e.g. running sound equipment). These openings depend on our needs.
  3. Grants. Part of the fee may be waived.

Criteria for awards

Financial aid will be awarded based on:
  1. Need
  2. Past or planned participation in folk music and dance
  3. Increasing the diversity of our community
  4. Plans to make practical use of the Woods experience
Need is our primary criterion. If we cannot assist all applicants, we will use criteria 2-4 to make selections.

Applications submitted by June 15 are processed, and applicants notified in early July. After June 15 resources are more limited and applications are processed on a "first come-first served" basis. The $75 deposit must accompany your application if it has not already been paid. The deposit is refunded if you cannot attend for financial reasons.
