The History of the Business We are a family business that was started in 1945 by Ron’s father, Carl Saillian. Carl was an Armenian orphan brought to Canada after the Turkish Genocide. He was number 108 of the 109 orphans who were brought to Canada at that time. Like the other children, he was sent to live on a local farm. After he left the farm he met up with other Armenian orphans and was employed at Turco-Persian rug in Toronto, where he was taught oriental rug cleaning and repair. As he was growing up, Ron helped in the family business, and, when he was old enough, his father sent him to Turco-Persian in Toronto to study under the old master who had taught him many years before. Under this master, Ron achieved the highest levels of repair and restoration as his father had given him the best of foundations to build upon. Today, Ron is thankful for the rigorous apprenticeship under his father and his master. His well-honed skills include the ability to distinguish characteristics of a wide range of various rugs: their different patterns, weaves, finishes, age, dyes, etc. Moreover, he is very accomplished at re-creating actual pieces of rugs and carpets for clients. Ron’s services offered also include rugs and carpet cleaning and appraisals of contemporary and antique rugs. Many rug businesses come and go. The Saillians have been in Guelph now for more than sixty years. Ron takes great pride in the fact that he is cleaning and restoring carpets that his father sold to customers more than half a century ago. Handmade
rugs are unique works art. Consult with an expert when purchasing. He
will tell you the truth what you are buying and ask you a fair price
for it. He won't try to sell it to you. If it's meant to be yours, it
will be. 'Kismet' |
