Decorator carpets fill a niche for people, meeting the need for an area rug to act as an accent, and are usually less expensive than purchasing a higher-quality rug. Decorator carpets can be of lower quality, but still are handmade pieces.
Production pieces, regardless of knot count, will not appreciate in value because they are hand-made. Remember, the same production piece will still be available years from now, newly made. Would you pay more for a 10-year old rug when you could buy the same rug, just made - with identical style, colour, and size - for the same price? Consult an Expert An expert will always be able to tell a program (a production piece) from an original. |

Antique-Semi Antique Antique rugs and semi-antique rugs are
purchased by those who love rugs for their originality – be it
age, pattern, style, or city, village or tribal group of origin.

Tribal rugs Some of the world's most exciting rugs are woven by nomadic peoples. Few weavers have reached the standard of the Qashga'i of Iran or the Turkomen of what is now Turkmenistan. Although their rugs lack the technical perfection of urban rugs, the imaginative brilliance of their designs more than makes up. Old rugs are rare and highly sought after. Modern rugs, especially good Gabbehs, are extraordinary weavings and will be the valued antiques of the future.

Collecting tribal weavings Nomadic peoples learned to make virtually anything they needed in their daily life out of wool and in any number of techniques. As their way of life dies out, so do their skills, and their saddle bags, wall bags, bedding bags, etc. become increasingly valuable. Collectors especially appreciate those weavings that young brides made for their dowries.
