Andrew Manera Preacher Boy General Loki

OK, here's the lowdown on Manera. First off, yes this is my REAL name and no I do not have an identity crisis nor do I suffer from MPD. My nicknames have come about due to experiences that have occured throughout my life (All will be revealed in time).

I'm entering my OAC year of schooling in Southern Ontario, attending Saint James High School. Post Secondary looks like a BSc in Kinesiology and hopefull off to Medical School and a host of residency to become a Neurosurgeon. Cool eh! If you havn't toured the site yet I recommend doing so; it tells a lot about me. Predominantly, the fact that I am a Shad Survivor of Calgary 1997. SHAD 97C : the most amazing experience of my life, words will never do it justice. I love SVC '97!!! Secondly, the almighty Campaigns. I am honoured to be able to work with such a fantastic crew of people; my thanks and respect go out to you all. Activity wise, I enjoy mountain biking, badminton, table tennis, basketball, ultimate (disc rules!), hiking, and pretty much any other sport for recreation. I love to act. I read classical literature and poetry (the older the better). I have a wild sense of humour. I am eccentric. Oh yeah, and I love to swing.

OK, here's the deal with the name Preacher Boy, the inspiration for Preacher's Page. Honestly, I really don't know the history of this one as well as I should but here goes the story as I know it anyways.

Before CC95 , the crew handed out nicknames to be broadcast in conjunction with our proper names for the credits. Lanny became "G", Dave became "Herminator", Steve became "Hommes", and I became "Preacher Boy". Ever since then, the name has stuck. Lanny was the mastermind behind that name, perhaps it is for our shared backgrounds as Altar Boys at Church? All that he says when I question him on the subject is "Because Manera, you Preach the Word!". So there.

Ahhhh...the General Loki story. If you've been anywhere on the site, you've heard me rave about SHAD 97C. I'm a Survivor, what did you expect? Sit back, it's story telling time...

It's the middle of week two at SVC '97 and the idea of painting some fairly large rocks around campus has been floating around. The idea continued to float until Richard quite forcefully told me to paint the (expletive goes here) rock. So that was that. In past years, the rock was painted en mass. That was old and boring, we needed someting with flair. Over the next week, I carefully and secretly assembled a team of SHADs and Staff (TAs really + 1 awesome PM) to paint not one, but two rocks on the last Sunday of the program. Richard and Jenna armed us with the paint while I held secret meetings in a place known only as "The Hall of the Mountain King". Each morning prior to the attack, I would give cryptic announcements to all of SVC '97, just to wet their appetites and spark a little curiosity. With one final announcement in full battle gear (Total black outfitting + black Batman pack + black No Fear hat + Petzl Headlamp) on the night of the mission, we were off. The mission was accomplished in under two hours and we crept back into Rundle Hall virtually undetected. The morning after, all was revealed and the SHAD painted rocks were a prized possession of the program. The mission was coded "Operation : Loki's Canvas". Loki, after the Norse god of mischief. I was General Loki, the leader of the mission. That is the story behind the name. Somewhere on this website Operation : Loki's Canvas are some of the announcements from the night of the attack, the morning revelation, and a beautiful poem "O Captain! My Captain!". Salut!

"That buzzing-noise means something. You don't get a buzzing-noise like that, just buzzing and buzzing, without its meaning something. If there's a buzzing-noise, somebody's making a buzzing-noise, and the only reason for making a buzzing-noise that I know of is because you are a bee...

And the only reason for being a bee that I know of is making honey...

And the only reason for making honey is so as I can eat it." -A.A. Milne from Winnie the Pooh
